How to Prepare for Your Spring Window Installation

Spring is the perfect time for some home upgrades. You get mild temperatures and pleasant weather throughout the season, making it easy for home improvement contractors to do their jobs successfully. If you’re considering a new window installation, you must take steps to prepare for it. STL Windows Direct offers some helpful tips.

Cover Your Valuables

Before the window installation starts, we recommend covering your furniture and other indoor fixtures to protect them from the dust and mess of the project. We also suggest that you move them at least four to six feet away from the openings where the windows will be replaced. Blankets, sheets, or tarps can be used. Outdoor items and landscaping features might also need to be protected during the installation process, especially if you have flowers planted below the window openings. Covering them with light plastic covering shields them from wayward debris, dusty frames and old paint.

Remove Any Obstructions

If you have delicate furniture or glassware near some of your window openings, they must be moved out of the way before the installation starts. You should also remove anything hanging on the walls or sitting on floating shelves. Takedown curtains, drapes and other treatments to ensure the smooth installation of your new windows.

Turn Off Your Security System

The security system in your home must be deactivated while the window installation is ongoing. Home security systems often have sensors in the windows, so make sure to turn them off so that your contractor won’t accidentally trigger the alarm. Depending on your system, you might need to call in a professional from your local home security company to disconnect the alarms and then reconnect them once the installation is complete.
